In the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 25% tariff on Indian imports, Congress MP Ujjwal Raman Singh has voiced strong criticism against the Indian government's foreign and economic strategies. He accused the administration of failing to protect India's interests against American demands, especially in light of India's purchases from Russia.
Singh noted that Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, has consistently raised concerns both in Parliament and public forums, yet the government remains unresponsive. He stressed that the manner in which Trump is allegedly undervaluing India is unacceptable to the people, and questioned the strength of Indo-U.S. relations.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh further lambasted PM Narendra Modi's handling of the situation, suggesting that the previous camaraderie with Trump, as seen during 'Howdy Modi', has not translated into favorable outcomes for India. Trump's policy, articulated via social media, emphasized high Indian tariffs and defense ties with Russia as primary reasons for the new duties.
