Mizoram is set to establish a State Super Speciality Cancer & Research Centre in Aizawl, a significant development chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma. The initiative is supported by funds from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under India's External Aided Project.

This project is crucial as Mizoram reports 189.7 cancer cases per 100,000 people, almost double the national average. The lack of adequate cancer treatment facilities has forced many patients out of the state for care. Such measures place financial strain on both the government and local families, emphasizing the critical need for in-state facilities.

With an estimated cost of Rs 700 crore, Rs 560 crore will be financed through a JICA loan, signed in February 2023. This ambitious project will include a modern hospital, nuclear medicine block, and staff quarters, equipped with advanced diagnostic tools. Discussions focused on transparent contractor selection will progress in upcoming meetings.
