The Delhi government has launched a targeted campaign to encourage the installation of rooftop solar panels under the 'PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana,' by involving cooperative housing societies, according to officials.
A recent meeting, chaired by a joint secretary from the Ministry of Cooperation, outlined the strategy for implementing this scheme through Delhi's cooperative societies. It was decided to initially identify one cooperative housing society and one dairy society to spearhead the solarisation project.
The Delhi government has approved an additional subsidy of Rs 30,000, bringing the total available subsidy to Rs 1.08 lakh for a 3 kW rooftop solar installation. The central scheme aims to offer free electricity to one crore households by subsidizing up to 60 percent of the solar unit cost.
