Communist Party of India (Marxist) MP John Brittas has voiced strong criticism against US President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 25% tariff on Indian goods. Brittas urged the Indian government to resist such 'nonsense,' pointing out Prime Minister Narendra Modi's past support for Trump has not yielded favorable outcomes for India.

Speaking to ANI, Brittas asserted that Trump has turned his back on India. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook efforts to bolster Trump, even campaigning for him in the United States. Yet in return, Trump has harmed India's interests. The Indian government must stand firm against this affront to our sovereignty," Brittas remarked. He further accused Trump of attempting to reduce India to a US colony through such actions.

The Congress party similarly launched a barrage of criticism at PM Modi following Trump's tariff announcement. Highlighting what they term a failure in India's foreign policy, the Congress contends the nation is suffering due to Modi's previous camaraderie with Trump, underscored by Modi's public shows of support which have now backfired.
