Congress leader Supriya Shrinate strongly criticized the central government after former US President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on Indian goods. Citing concerns voiced by Rahul Gandhi, she underscored how this decision could adversely affect the economy, particularly in terms of exports, production, and job opportunities.
Emphasizing the potential repercussions, Shrinate said, "You gave the slogan of 'Abki baar Trump Sarkar', yet Trump has imposed shackling tariffs. Our pharmaceutical exports to the US will become costlier, reducing demand, affecting production, and leading to job losses." She attributed these challenges to what she called a failed foreign policy.
Meanwhile, India's Commerce and Industry Ministry acknowledged Trump's statement and is evaluating its implications for bilateral trade. The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interests of Indian farmers, entrepreneurs, and MSMEs and promised necessary steps to secure national interests.
