Trump's Tariff Tactics: Exemptions and Impacts on Brazilian Exports
President Trump implemented a 50% tariff on most Brazilian goods, linked to Brazil's prosecution of former President Bolsonaro. While sectors like aircraft and energy were exempted, significant Brazilian exports like beef and coffee were not. The tariff aims to pressure Brazil and highlights Trump's ongoing political maneuvering.

In a decisive move, U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday imposed a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods, excluding essential sectors such as aircraft and energy. The tariff is a strategic response to what Trump terms a "witch hunt" against former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
The executive order, however, left significant gaps, as beef and coffee—major Brazilian exports—remain affected. Brazilian Treasury Secretary Rogerio Ceron expressed relief, noting that the outcome was more favorable than anticipated, although the broader impact remains uncertain with emerging concerns over key exports.
While analysts caution against premature optimism, Brazilian industrial giants like Embraer and Suzano observed market gains. The White House linked the tariffs to Bolsonaro's legal challenges in Brazil, further tightening the political strains between the U.S. and Brazil.
