The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is poised to significantly boost its lending to India, aiming to escalate its investment from USD 12 billion to a staggering USD 20 billion within the next five years, a senior official announced.
Ajay Bhushan Pandey, AIIB's Vice President for Investment Solutions, stated that the bank is encouraging potential borrowers in India to compile a list of suitable projects. India, a significant player in AIIB's USD 60 billion portfolio, stands to gain heavily from this initiative.
Pandey highlighted that AIIB could co-lend with National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) and provide long-term financing solutions, despite any geopolitical challenges. This strategic push comes as India ramps up infrastructure investment efforts across various sectors.
