The Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying (MoFAH&D) is poised to hold a critical Regional Review Meeting in Kolkata, West Bengal, focusing on the fisheries sector for the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. Scheduled for August 2nd, this meeting aims to assess the implementation of crucial schemes including the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF), and the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY).

The meeting will be chaired by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, with Minister of State George Kurian also attending. Key officials and representatives from the participating states, the Department of Fisheries, State Fisheries Departments, and ICAR Institutes will converge to discuss the progress, achievements, and challenges faced by the eastern states in the fisheries sector. The discussions are expected to carve out a roadmap for future development, focusing on enhancing productivity and promoting inclusive and sustainable development.

This event comes as part of India's broader push to foster a transformative Blue Revolution following significant government investments in the sector, totaling Rs 38,572 crore since 2015. Technologies like RAS and Biofloc are driving efficiencies, while digital identities for fisheries stakeholders are enhancing sectoral integration. With West Bengal leading in production, the region contributes significantly to India's fish output, underscoring the importance of sustained governmental and technological support.
