On Friday, Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan officially assumed the role of the 47th Vice Chief of the Naval Staff (VCNS). In an expression of deep respect, he visited the National War Memorial, laying a wreath in tribute to the valiant individuals who sacrificed their lives for the nation. This solemn ceremony was followed by a Guard of Honour at the South Block, befitting his distinguished service.

A veteran alumnus of the National Defence Academy's 71st course in Pune, Vice Admiral Vatsayan joined the Indian Navy in 1988. He is renowned for his specialization in Gunnery and Missile Systems and has excelled in various command, operational, and staff roles throughout his over three-decade-long career.

Prior to his current appointment, Vice Admiral Vatsayan served as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy & Plans) at Naval Headquarters and led the Eastern Fleet as the Flag Officer Commanding. His notable career also includes significant roles such as Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Operations) and Chief of Staff at Eastern Naval Command Headquarters. Acknowledged for his exceptional service, he has been decorated with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Nau Sena Medal.
