During his recent visit to Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah underscored the importance of tourism for India's economy. While at the Statue of Unity, he emphasized travel's role in broadening perspectives and its potential to employ millions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended Abdullah for supporting national unity through domestic tourism.
In a series of posts on X, Abdullah highlighted J&K's reliance on tourism and the need to attract more visitors post recent tragedies. His itinerary in Gujarat included a visit to the Sabarmati Ashram, where he reflected on Mahatma Gandhi's teachings and the significance of grassroots democracy.
Abdullah experimented with a Charkha at the Ashram, linking it to Gandhi's ideals of self-reliance. At the Sardar Sarovar Dam, he noted its impact on drought-prone regions and expressed hope for similar projects in J&K following the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, aiming to address regional water and power shortages.
