In a landmark appointment, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has welcomed Sonali Mishra, an IPS officer from the 1993 batch of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, as its new Director General. Mishra's appointment, endorsed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, makes her the first woman to hold this position in the 143-year history of the RPF.

Mishra, a respected officer recognized for her professionalism and leadership, brings over three decades of exemplary service in various key policing roles. Before her current appointment, she was the Additional Director General of Police in charge of Selection/Recruitment, alongside responsibilities at the Police Training & Research Institute and the Madhya Pradesh Police Academy in Bhopal. Her extensive career includes experience with the CBI, BSF, and an international assignment with the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo.

A recipient of notable awards including the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Mishra's leadership is expected to enhance the Railway Protection Force's core missions of ensuring railway safety and preventing crimes. Her focus will be on leveraging advanced technology and combating organized crime such as human trafficking. Upon taking charge, Mishra expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead, pledging to uphold the RPF's values of vigilance and service embodied in its motto "Yasho Labhasva".
