Pune's Yavat village witnessed a rapid escalation of unrest, following a provocative social media post. According to Special Inspector General Sunil Phulari, police intervention swiftly brought the chaos under control after initial violence involving stone-pelting, arson, and property vandalism.
The police reported damage to two cars, a motorcycle, a bakery, and a religious venue during the unrest. "Stones shattered car windows, and a motorcycle was set ablaze. The bakery and a religious place also suffered damage," noted authorities. Police forces acted promptly to regain control and began identifying those responsible for the disruption.
The unrest was triggered by a local youth's controversial social media post, sparking fury among residents. Although police detained the individual, tensions escalated, leading to the day's disturbances. Enhanced security measures were deployed, including the State Reserve Police Force and Pune Rural Police, under Section 144 for 48 hours to maintain order.
