Jammu city has achieved a remarkable jump in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards, climbing to the 42nd spot from 248th in the 3-10 lakh population category. The city administration now aims to break into the top 10 and eventually secure a top-three place. Commissioner Devansh Yadav attributed the improvement to the active participation of city residents in cleanliness initiatives.
"Our ranking leapt to 42, a significant achievement from previous years when Jammu was ranked between 250 and 300," Yadav told ANI. The city plans to adopt effective practices from top-performing cities like Indore and Ahmedabad. "We must involve residents in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to make Jammu greener," Yadav added.
Key measures that contributed to the progress include implementing an effective waste processing system and holding sanitation workers accountable via technology like GPS and face-recognition apps. Jammu has also been recognized as a "Promising Swachh Shehar" and earned a Garbage Free City 3-star rating, alongside ODF++ certification.
