In a grand gesture to India's agricultural community, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme from Varanasi, transferring over Rs 20,500 crore to nearly 10 crore farmers across the nation. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised this initiative, emphasizing its positive effect on over 8 lakh farmers in the state.
Speaking at the event, CM Dhami expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his direct transfer efforts, which contribute significantly to the financial stability of India's land-holding farmers. This instalment pushes the total disbursement under PM-KISAN to over Rs 3.90 lakh crore since its launch in 2019, where eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually in three instalments through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
Moreover, the scheme is modernizing agriculture by integrating digital tools such as Kisan eMitra and AgriStack for personalized farmer support. Additionally, mobile numbers can now be linked with Aadhaar through India Post, facilitating seamless e-KYC processes, while PM Modi concurrently inaugurated development projects worth Rs 2,200 crore, further uplifting Varanasi on his 51st constituency visit.
