In Varanasi, the Ganga River's escalating water levels have triggered a flood-like scenario, impacting the city's residents and disrupting daily activities. The Varuna River, a significant tributary, is now posing a threat due to the Ganga's rising waters, compelling evacuations in the affected areas.
With the river currently flowing at 69.98 meters, dangerously close to the 71.26-meter risk threshold, Varanasi's Tulsi Ghat is already submerged, according to the Central Water Commission. Consequently, all boating activities on the Ganga have been suspended in a bid to ensure public safety.
Tourists are bearing the brunt of the adverse conditions, restricting their movement and plans. Rani Kumari and Gaurav, visitors from other cities, expressed their disappointment with being unable to explore the ghats or perform rituals due to flood impacts. The India Meteorological Department forecasts more rain, adding to the challenges residents and tourists face.
