In a compelling call to action, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has urged the Centre to address the Opposition's demand for a parliamentary discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar's voter list. Speaking to reporters, she highlighted the gravity of the issue, questioning why such an important topic remains undebated.
The INDIA bloc's protests disrupted parliamentary proceedings earlier today, leading to an adjournment until 2 PM. During the question hour, opposition MPs demonstrated with placards, prompting Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to adjourn the session. Congress MP Manickam Tagore subsequently moved an adjournment motion, emphasizing the need to examine the Electoral Commission's handling of the electoral rolls in Bihar.
Addressing concerns about the SIR's impact, Tagore highlighted how it disproportionately affects marginalized communities. He expressed alarm at the potential spread of similar disenfranchisement to other states like Assam and West Bengal, and called for a comprehensive debate on the matter, warning it threatens both constitutional voting rights and the integrity of India's electoral process.
