In a somber tribute, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi visited Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi to pay their respects to former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) patron, Shibu Soren, who passed away earlier after a prolonged illness. They offered condolences to his son, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

Kharge addressed the media, expressing intentions to travel with Rahul Gandhi to Jharkhand for Soren's funeral. 'Both Rahul Gandhi and I will go to attend the funeral,' Kharge stated outside the hospital. Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu described Soren's passing as a significant loss in the sphere of social justice.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute, sharing his condolences through a social media post and meeting the grieving family. The Jharkhand Assembly's monsoon session was adjourned following Soren's death, with state mourning declared for three days. Soren, known as "Dishom Guru", was pivotal in the creation of Jharkhand and led the JMM for 38 years.
