The Supreme Court will consider a crucial plea on August 8 concerning the restoration of statehood to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan brought the petition before a bench led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, ensuring it remains on the court's docket for the slated date.

Chief Justice Gavai confirmed the plea would not be removed from the August 8 list. The petition calls for swift action to reinstate Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, adhering to commitments made by the Union of India, an issue highlighted since the landmark ruling on Article 370's abrogation.

The application, submitted by Zahoor Ahmed Bhat and Khurshaid Ahmad Malik, criticizes insufficient progress on the statehood pledge, despite promises from the Solicitor General. Filed through advocate Soyaib Qureshi, the plea argues that the delay undermines federalism and the rights of Jammu and Kashmir's citizens.
