The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to take legal action against Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, as party MP and senior advocate Manan Kumar Mishra announced plans to file a contempt petition in response to her remarks on a recent Supreme Court observation. The petition alleges that Gandhi's statements amount to contempt of court, reflecting a broader national debate on political conduct and judicial respect.

Mishra's statement was prompted by Priyanka Gandhi's defense of her brother, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, following the Supreme Court's stern observations regarding his comments on India's territorial issues with China. In her defense, Priyanka asserted that her brother holds the Indian Army in high regard and that his comments were misinterpreted, arguing that it is the opposition's duty to question government actions.

Earlier, the Supreme Court, represented by Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih, criticized Rahul Gandhi for his remarks about the India-China border dispute during an event in 2022. The court questioned the basis of his claims on territorial occupation, emphasizing the responsibility of political leaders to uphold national credibility amidst international conflicts.
