The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) launched a strong protest in Puri district on Thursday, targeting the BJP-led governments at both the Centre and Odisha. They demanded justice for a 15-year-old girl who was allegedly set on fire by unidentified miscreants in Balanga. BJD leader Rudra Narayana Maharathi labeled the BJP's 'double engine' governance as a failure, citing the deterioration of law and order.
Maharathi criticized the BJP, indicating that since their rise to power, crimes against women have surged, with many cases going unsolved. He noted the Odisha Chief Minister's lack of response during the victim's struggle for life and questioned the absence of a conclusive police briefing on the case.
BJD leader Pradip Majhi highlighted the widespread impact of the protest, emphasizing that justice remains unserved. He criticized the BJP's inability to safeguard women, declaring that the ongoing unrest in Odisha is a result of governance failures. The protest follows the tragic incident on July 19, where a minor was abducted and set ablaze, leading to her death after battling injuries.
