Saurabh Bharadwaj, president of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has voiced sharp criticism of Delhi's law and order situation, alleging a significant rise in street crimes. He accused the Delhi Police of prioritizing targeting AAP leaders over ensuring public safety. Bharadwaj's remarks came on the heels of the fatal stabbing of Bollywood actor Huma Qureshi's cousin, Asif Qureshi, in Jangpura on August 7, after a heated argument over scooter parking.
In a statement to ANI, Bharadwaj highlighted the surge in crimes like chain and mobile snatching and vehicle break-ins, incidents he claims have become so common that citizens have ceased reporting them. He asserted that violent crimes such as murders, rapes, and robberies are increasingly prevalent, while law enforcement agencies are misallocated to smear campaigns against AAP leaders.
As per Delhi Police reports, Asif Qureshi, 42, lost his life after being attacked with a sharp weapon by local youths during an argument. The accused, Ujjwal and Gautam, have been apprehended. The capital recently saw another high-profile crime with the chain snatching of Tamil Nadu MP R Sudha. The crime was reportedly resolved with an arrest, prompting the MP to commend the efforts while hoping for equal treatment for all citizens.
