Assam Rifles Busts Cigarette Smuggling Ring in Mizoram

In a precision-targeted operation, Assam Rifles made a significant seizure of illegal cigarettes valued at Rs. 96.2 Lakhs in the Tlangsam area of Champhai district, Mizoram. Officials reported the arrest of two individuals during the operation. Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) indicated that the operation was based on detailed intelligence inputs.
The operation launched on August 8, 2025, involved a search in the general area of Tlangsam, where Assam Rifles recovered 20 cases of XSO Black Fruit cigarettes, 5 cases of ORIS Blue, and 49 cases of ORIS Silver from a vehicle. The two arrested individuals, identified as H Ramengmawia and Zosangliana, were detained for further questioning.
All recovered items, along with the vehicle and suspected persons, were handed over to the Legal Metrology Department in Champhai. In a prior crackdown on August 1, Assam Rifles in collaboration with Mizoram Police seized heroin worth approximately Rs. 2.55 crore near Lungpuizawl village, arresting four. Legal proceedings are underway following these seizures.
