In a landmark ruling, the Supreme Court has allowed BSES Yamuna Power Ltd and BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd, subsidiaries of Reliance Infrastructure, to recover power dues amounting to Rs 28,483 crore over the next four years.
These companies are major electricity suppliers in Delhi, providing power to 5.3 million households. The Supreme Court's decision follows a series of legal battles initiated in 2014 by Reliance Infrastructure regarding non-cost reflective tariffs and ensuring liquidation of regulatory assets.
The court has directed that all regulatory assets, including associated carrying costs, be paid within a stipulated three years. The Electricity Regulatory Commissions are tasked with auditing the circumstances that permitted the non-recovery of these assets.
