Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated new multi-storey residential flats for Members of Parliament in New Delhi, as part of a move to improve MP housing. He used the occasion to take an indirect jab at the opposition, suggesting they might interpret the naming of one tower, 'Kosi', politically ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections.
Speaking at the inauguration, Modi noted that the towers are named after four prominent Indian rivers - Krishna, Godavari, Kosi, and Hooghly. He asserted that the project would significantly contribute to the ease of living for MPs by providing modern amenities and environmentally sustainable features aligned with a GRIHA 3-star rating.
Highlighting significant government savings from reduced reliance on rented buildings, Modi stated that the initiative has resulted in the construction of 350 MP residences since 2014. The complex, designed with green and inclusive technology, ensures energy efficiency and offers dedicated spaces for both personal and official functions. Safety features, including earthquake-resistant structures, further enhance the facility.
