The Indian Parliament faced disruptions on Monday as both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm following uproar from Opposition members. The protest stemmed from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the election-bound state of Bihar, which the Opposition claims could lead to "voter fraud" in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In the Rajya Sabha, Deputy Chairman Harivansh announced the suspension of proceedings. Opposition MPs, under the INDIA bloc, gathered at Makar Dwar, planning a march to the Election Commission headquarters at Nirvachan Sadan, passing by Transport Bhawan. Concerns about security along the route were amplified with barricades set up by police, who stated that formal permission for the march hadn't been sought.
Amidst the unrest, the Lok Sabha's agenda for the day comprises committee reports and ministerial statements. Proceedings are set to commence at 11 am, featuring discussions on responses from various ministries. Notable reports include evaluations on India's Indian Ocean strategy and the evolving role of the Competition Commission in the digital landscape.
