Controversy Erupts Over Siang Upper Multipurpose Project's Approval Process
Arunachal Pradesh's Siang Indigenous Farmer’s Forum (SIFF) disputes the validity of household approvals for the 11,000 MW Siang Upper Multipurpose Project, claiming signatory figures are exaggerated. Allegations include false entries and misinformation about CSR funds, prompting SIFF to call for a traditional meeting to address these concerns.

The Siang Indigenous Farmer's Forum (SIFF) has raised objections over the household approval process for the proposed 11,000 MW Siang Upper Multipurpose Project in Arunachal Pradesh, accusing the Siang Upper Project Multipurpose Dam Committee (SUPMDC) of inflating supportive signatory numbers.
SIFF spokesperson Tagori Mize has revealed that an RTI response indicates that only 277 out of 429 households from Riga village reportedly approved the project, in contrast to the 329 claims made by SUPMDC. Concerns were raised over 17 false entries in the list, casting doubt on the consent's integrity.
The forum alleges misinformation about corporate social responsibility funds and upfront payments, with denials from the hydropower department. Consequently, SIFF has organized a traditional meeting, inviting community stakeholders to press for a revision of Article 371-H, which offers special privileges to the state.
