A man from Tirupati, identified as R Eswar Reddy, allegedly kidnapped a Class 8 student in Chimakurthy mandal, Prakasam district, as a coercive measure to recover a Rs 5 lakh loan, according to police statements issued on Saturday.

Authorities revealed that Srinivasa Rao, who had borrowed the amount while working in Tirupati, became a target after failing to repay the debt. Reddy reportedly seized the opportunity following an Independence Day event by approaching the girl at school under false pretenses, misleading her to Ongole with promises of sweets.

Inspector Subbarao of Chimakurthy district described how Reddy exploited his familiarity with the victim's family to execute the plan. Once apprehended, he faced charges of kidnapping and making threats, with police deploying special teams and utilizing CCTV footage to facilitate his swift capture. The girl has since been reunited with her family, while investigations continue.
