In a significant move to boost farmers' income, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that honey will be included in the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana, following the model of horticulture crops. Facilities for honey sales will be established at the Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre in Ramnagar, Kurukshetra.
To support honey production and quality, a Rs. 20 crore Quality Control Laboratory will be built. The centre will serve as a national-level hub for advanced research in beekeeping. Speaking at a state workshop on beekeeping, Saini highlighted the role of beekeeping in enhancing crop productivity and providing additional income.
Aiming for 15,500 metric tonnes of honey by 2030, Haryana will establish the first Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre with Israeli cooperation. It will offer extensive training for farmers, and a Honey Trade Centre has already distributed thousands of bee boxes and comb sheets, aiding in honey processing and bottling.
