Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir faces a dire situation as rescue operations continue following a devastating flash flood triggered by an August 14 cloudburst during the Machail Mata Yatra pilgrimage. According to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravinder Raina, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and key ministers are actively monitoring the situation.

The Indian Army, supported by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), and local authorities, is leading the rescue efforts. As of Saturday, a senior SDRF official confirmed the recovery of seven bodies as teams, including local NGOs, work tirelessly to manage the aftermath.

Jammu and Kashmir Leader of Opposition and Kishtwar MLA Sunil Kumar Sharma highlighted multi-agency rescue efforts and the importance of improving weather and road conditions for operations. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the affected areas, announcing financial relief and assuring infrastructural restoration. The community remains united in addressing the crisis.
