The Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai has sounded an alert for significant rainfall and strong winds across Maharashtra from August 16 to August 21, 2025. The State Emergency Operations Centre warns that regions like Konkan and central Maharashtra might face severe to extremely severe rainfall, with Marathwada anticipating heavy rainfall at isolated spots. Additionally, strong winds ranging from 40 to 50 km/h are expected to accompany the showers.
The maritime conditions will remain rough with wind speeds exceeding 50 km/h along the Konkan Coast between August 16 and 20. Fishermen are advised to avoid sea ventures during this period. Authorities are utilizing the Sachhet app to send out warning alerts to the populace, ensuring readiness for any potential calamities. Both the National and State Disaster Response Forces are poised to tackle emergencies as needed.
Concern intensifies in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts, where several rivers, including the Amba and Jagbudi, have breached warning levels. Local administrations have been proactive, issuing safety directives to the public to mitigate flood risks. The State Level Emergency Operations Centre is maintaining a 24/7 hotline to address inquiries and provide updates, as managed by the Ministry control room at several contact points.
The India Meteorological Department heightened its alert, announcing a red warning for the districts of Ratnagiri, Raigad, Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Thane, and Palghar, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall imminently. Mumbai has already started experiencing severe waterlogging in areas like Gandhi Nagar, Kings Circle, and Sion Railway Station due to persistent rain.
Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani has tasked all administrative tiers within the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to ensure effective coordination and prompt emergency responses.
