For eight years, Akshay Sharma, a young boy hailing from a poverty-stricken family in Duggan, was trapped in silence. Born with a cleft lip and palate, Akshay underwent surgery at just three years old, yet he remained unable to speak. His parents, overwhelmed by financial hardship, had nearly lost hope of hearing their son's voice.
Their fortunes changed dramatically when an Army doctor stationed in the region encountered Akshay. The doctor, moved by the family's plight, conducted basic evaluations and discovered that with appropriate therapy, the boy could learn to speak. As no such facilities existed in their isolated village, the officer took it upon himself to study speech therapy techniques and began assisting Akshay during his free time.
With patient guidance, the doctor taught Akshay sounds, then words, and eventually simple sentences. After months of diligent practice, Akshay's confidence soared as he began to speak. Upon calling out to his parents for the first time, their tears of joy marked the sound as a miracle. Their home, once filled with silent prayers, now resonated with Akshay's cheerful chatter, becoming a testament to the soldier's impactful compassion.
This selfless act extended beyond one family, influencing the entire community. The Army doctor's benevolence left an indelible impression on Duggan, proving that the Army not only secures borders but also heals hearts, bringing hope to where it is needed the most. Concurrently, the Army teamed with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local police, and district administration in Chasoti village of Kishtwar district, conducting rescue efforts after a catastrophic cloudburst.
The cloudburst in Chasoti village, located in Jammu & Kashmir's Kishtwar district, resulted in the tragic loss of at least 60 lives. Occurring along the Machail Mata Yatra route, the disaster initiated flash floods and significant destruction, impacting pilgrims and locals. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah personally visited the scene to evaluate damages, utilizing a Virtual Reality device to survey the devastation. Abdulla assured prompt relief actions for the impacted families.
On Friday, Chief Minister Abdullah announced the recovery of approximately 60 bodies, with the verification of missing persons continuing. (ANI)
