Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Uma Bharti has called for the renaming of Shahjahanpur district in Uttar Pradesh. Bharti accuses the opposition of supporting names from the colonial era, labeling it as a move fueled by 'vote greed'. She insists on a name reflecting a freedom fighter or cultural icon.
In response to Rahul Gandhi's accusations against the Election Commission, Bharti defended the body, asserting that it addresses complaints diligently. Her comments came as Gandhi, alongside RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, kicked off the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar, protesting alleged electoral malpractice.
The rally, spanning over 1,300 km across Bihar, features key figures like Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and RJD's Lalu Prasad Yadav. Yadav has intensively criticized the BJP, urging unity to prevent the party from retaining power, which he describes as detrimental to democracy.
