Animal rights activists in Siliguri joined a growing nationwide protest on Monday against the recent Supreme Court ruling, which mandates the relocation of stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelter homes within an eight-week timeline. The court's decision has sparked substantial backlash from demonstrators, who have labeled the directive 'inhuman' and are calling for its reversal.

During the protest, attendees displayed placards and chanted slogans. They expressed their belief that stray dogs, being 'voiceless creatures,' deserve compassion instead of displacement. Anisha Paul, one of the protesters, voiced strong opinions, saying, 'Dogs haven't done anything wrong. You can spare criminals, so why can't you spare dogs? This verdict is inhuman and should be rescinded.'

Similar demonstrations have cropped up across the country, including in Chennai and the national capital, where protests led to clashes with the police. Authorities reported that the protests in Delhi were conducted in defiance of current prohibitory orders. Legal action is being taken against violators as tensions continue over the controversial ruling.
