Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced on Monday that Russian crude oil supplies to Hungary were interrupted following an attack by Ukraine on a transformer station along the Druzhba pipeline.

Despite geopolitical tensions following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, Hungary has maintained its dependency on Russian energy, primarily receiving crude oil through the pipeline crossing Belarus and Ukraine. Szijjarto, writing on Facebook, disclosed conversations with Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin, who informed him that specialists were attempting to repair the station, but it was uncertain when the oil flow would be restored.

While Hungarian authorities condemned the attack as a severe blow to Hungary's energy security, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha refrained from confirming the incident. He, however, reiterated that Russia is to blame for the conflict. The recent disruption is part of a series of supply challenges, including last week's temporary suspension after Ukrainian drones targeted a Russian pumping station.
