Heavy Rains Trigger Red Alert in Belagavi: Schools Shut, Precautions Intensified

Belagavi district officials have issued a red alert for Tuesday and Wednesday as heavy rainfall continues unabated, forcing school closures and urging residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, authorities announced.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan stated that the district is under close observation, with a meeting held alongside key officials to assess conditions. Reservoir water releases are being managed to maintain river levels while preparations for relief centers continue.

Despite the intensified weather, officials reassure that there is no immediate danger in the Krishna river basin. Communities in low-lying areas have been warned of potential flooding. Tragically, a woman in Gokak perished when her old house collapsed, underscoring the situation's seriousness. Compensation for affected families is underway, with additional relief efforts in place.
