The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi has teamed up with Rotaplast International, a U.S.-based non-profit, and the Rotary Club of Delhi-Restoring Smiles for a transformative initiative. From August 19 to 29, they will host the 'Rotary Restoring Smiles: International Reconstructive Surgery Mission & Education Clinic,' aiming to provide free reconstructive surgeries to underprivileged patients with burn scars and contractures.
AIIMS has a robust infrastructure dedicated to burn care, with facilities equipped to handle emergencies and supported by a multidisciplinary team. As a recognized 'Centre of Excellence in Burns,' AIIMS sees nearly 10,000 outpatient burn cases annually. The mission also serves as an educational opportunity, offering hands-on training in cleft and burn contracture management, enhancing the medical skills of young doctors and nursing students.
The opening ceremony highlighted the collaboration's synergy in combining patient care with academic advancement. Dr. Nirupam Madan emphasized the dual focus on healthcare service and medical education. The foreign and local surgical teams will perform over 50 surgeries, reinforcing the Rotary's commitment to humanitarian service. The mission signifies hope for patients and an educational boon for India's medical community.
