Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on opposition parties for their resistance against the introduction of a constitutional amendment bill in the Lok Sabha. The amendment aims to prevent individuals in jail from holding significant political positions such as Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or Minister. Shah accused the Congress-led INDI Alliance of uniting disgracefully to shield corruption.
Recalling a confrontation with Congress leader KC Venugopal, Shah clarified allegations made against him during the bill's introduction. He reiterated that he had resigned before being arrested in a fabricated case concocted by Congress and refrained from holding any position until acquitted, highlighting that the charges were dismissed by the court as politically motivated vendetta.
Emphasizing the BJP's commitment to moral values, Shah contrasted the actions of BJP leaders like Lal Krishna Advani, who resigned over mere allegations, with Congress's historic attempts to keep leaders above the law. He criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for double standards, referencing Gandhi's past opposition to an ordinance protecting Lalu Prasad Yadav, whom he now supports. The bills have been referred to the JPC for scrutiny despite opposition resistance.
