The Central government has appointed senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Satish Golcha as the new Delhi Police Commissioner, effective immediately. Golcha, a 1992-batch IPS officer from the AGMUT cadre, steps into the role after serving as the Director General of Prisons in Delhi.
An official order from the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed the appointment, stating that Golcha will replace IPS officer SBK Singh, who was temporarily overseeing the position following Sanjay Arora's retirement. Golcha will maintain his new role until further directives are issued.
Golcha's previous tenure as Director General of Prisons was marked by efforts to tackle jail violence and gang-related issues. His notable contributions include serving as Special Commissioner of Police during the 2020 North-East Delhi riots, highlighting his capability in managing law and order challenges.
