Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, ignited a political debate in the Assembly on Friday by reciting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's (RSS) anthem. This act came amid ongoing discussions concerning a stampede incident at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Addressing questions regarding potential political motives, Shivakumar maintained that he was well-versed with both opponents and allies, including the RSS.

Responding to queries on the political implications behind singing the RSS anthem, Shivakumar declared his identity as a 'born Congressman'. He noted that despite ideological differences, he has extensively studied the RSS's activities in Karnataka, particularly their efforts to establish educational institutions across districts and influence children. "I need to be aware of my adversaries and my comrades," he asserted.

Amid speculation about possible defection to the BJP, Shivakumar firmly denied any plans of crossing party lines, emphasizing his commitment to the Congress. The incident with BJP MLA R Ashoka during the stampede debate further highlighted the frictions. Shivakumar responded to Ashoka's comments by acknowledging mistakes but underscoring prompt government action. He also questioned the accountability surrounding the permission granted for the crowded event at the stadium.
