Advocate Vikas Verma on Friday lodged a formal protest with top government officials, challenging a recruitment notice issued by the Directorate of Prosecution, Government of NCT of Delhi. The notice, seeking retired prosecutors for contractual appointments, has sparked debate over its constitutionality and impact on young legal professionals.
Verma branded the recruitment process as unconstitutional and arbitrary. He cited significant Supreme Court verdicts that emphasize the importance of transparent, competitive selection processes for public posts, arguing that the number of advertised positions surpasses the legal limit. Verma accused the notice of circumventing established recruitment through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Additionally, Verma criticized the notification for violating reservation policies by excluding SC, ST, and OBC candidates. He condemned the Directorate for ignoring High Court directives and opting for an interview-only process, alleging favoritism. He called for the scrapping of the notification to prevent financial burdens and to ensure fairness in public employment.
