In a significant push towards economic empowerment, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday commenced the second phase of the 'Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan'. Held at a public rally in Nalbari district, this initiative provides financial support to women Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

The program, which initially started on April 1 in the Behali constituency, now extends aid to 33,909 SHG members, including 31,179 women from rural areas and 2,730 from Nalbari Municipality. Each beneficiary has received Rs 10,000, intended to bolster their entrepreneurial pursuits.

During the launch event at PM Shri Ghograpar Higher Secondary School, CM Sarma emphasized that nearly four lakh SHGs across Assam involve 40 lakh women. Committing Rs 3,038 crores to this cause, the government plans a subsequent phase where effective utilization of funds could lead to further assistance of Rs 25,000. This initiative aligns with other governmental schemes such as Orunodoi, Nijut Moina, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's welfare focus.
