The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Chamba, Kangra, and Mandi districts in Himachal Pradesh, predicting severe rainfall over the next 48 hours. Other districts face orange and yellow alerts due to the intense monsoon activity.
Senior IMD Scientist, Sandeep Kumar Sharma, noted that the monsoon has been particularly active in recent days, with heavy rainfall recorded in several areas. Bilaspur saw the highest rainfall at 190 mm in one station. He warned of potential flash floods and advised caution near water bodies.
Rainfall across Himachal Pradesh is expected to continue unabated from August 25 to 31, with the strongest downpours likely between August 25 and 27. The IMD urges caution as major rivers currently flow above their normal levels.
