In a sharp rebuke, Haryana's Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, criticized the Delhi government on Monday for its inaction in addressing the pollution of the Yamuna River. Saini claimed that despite numerous assurances and promises, no tangible improvement was observed during the opposition's tenure.

Addressing the members of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha during the Question Hour, Saini emphasized the severity of the river's condition, declaring the issue long neglected. He asserted that the current administration is determined to restore the Yamuna's health. Saini also informed the Assembly that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a personal interest in addressing the river's pollution, resulting in a high-level meeting in Delhi with the Chief Minister of Delhi and the Union Minister for Water Resources.

Outlining progress, Saini reported that approximately 16,000 metric tonnes of waste have been extracted from the Yamuna over the past four months. The waste removal marks a crucial start to a wider initiative aimed at rejuvenation. Additionally, new sewage treatment plants are being commissioned in Delhi to halt untreated sewage from entering the river, promising long-term improvements in water quality.
