GAIL (India) Ltd has sealed a significant agreement with Tata Steel to supply natural gas to the iconic steel manufacturer's Combi-Mill plant located in Jamshedpur. According to this agreement, GAIL will initially supply 31,000 standard cubic metres per day (SCMD) of natural gas until March 2026, scaling up to 43,000 SCMD thereafter.
Set to begin by the end of September, this supply falls under the City Gas Distribution project, a part of GAIL's strategy to bolster cleaner energy initiatives in the steel sector. GAIL's new partnership with Tata Steel marks the most substantial industrial collaboration since it began its City Gas Distribution operations in various Indian cities including Varanasi and Ranchi.
As part of this effort, a 23-km pipeline has been commissioned to ensure a steady flow of natural gas. GAIL's General Manager, Gauri Shankar Mishra, emphasized that this collaboration highlights their commitment to eco-friendly and cost-effective energy solutions for industrial needs, aiming to reduce the carbon footprint associated with steel production.
