India Diverts Indus Waters to Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan
India has temporarily suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan following a terror attack, diverting water resources to Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan. This action reallocates the flow from western rivers to Indian states and is planned to be executed over the next year to year and a half.

In a significant move, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar revealed on Friday that India will redirect water, previously channeled to Pakistan under the Indus Waters Treaty, to Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan in the next 12 to 18 months.
Following the Pahalgam terror attack which claimed 26 lives, India decided to temporarily hold the decades-old treaty, citing violations by Pakistan. This marks a pivotal development in water resource management between the two nations.
The treaty, established in 1960, facilitated water distribution of the Indus River system between India and Pakistan. The western rivers' flow will now support Indian states, altering the hydro-politics landscape significantly.
