The Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections in Arunachal Pradesh have shown a remarkable increase of over 700% in the past six years, declared Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Friday. From Rs 227 crore in 2017-18, the collections have soared to almost Rs 1,900 crore in 2023-24, driven by broader digital access, simplified registration processes, and efforts to integrate small businesses into the formal economy.
During a BJP programme in Namsai district focused on GST reforms, Mein highlighted a significant uptick in registered taxpayers, noting an increase from 7,365 in 2017 to 18,477 by mid-2025. This surge in resources, he asserted, has been pivotal in advancing infrastructure such as roads, healthcare, education, and welfare programs. With GST reforms implemented on September 22, the state is poised to enhance development further.
According to Mein, the reforms promise to reduce the cost of medicines, farm machinery, handicrafts, and tourism services, benefiting the state's populace. Further emphasizing social well-being, Mein, along with Namsai MLA Zingnu Namchoom and Nari-Koyu MLA Tojir Kadu, participated in the 'Rashtriya Poshan Maah' event, promoting nutrition for women and children through diverse diets, fortified foods, and real-time monitoring.
