Chhattisgarh's Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma expressed a blend of humor and skepticism in response to US President Donald Trump's recent executive order, which increases the H-1B visa sponsorship fee to $100,000. Speaking to ANI, Sharma stated, "I pray to God and wait for him to get some wisdom."
Trump's decree demands a $100,000 annual fee for H-1B visa petitions, intending to curb perceived abuses and prioritize American workers. His proclamation, "Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers," introduces a substantial financial burden on visa applications and could adversely affect Indians, who make up about 70% of H-1B holders.
The elevated fee presents a hurdle especially for smaller firms, potentially redirecting Indian talent towards alternative markets like Canada or Europe. Bikram Chabhal, president of the Association of Visa and IELTS Centres, warned that the move disproportionately impacts Indian workers. Meanwhile, Congress leader Pawan Khera criticized PM Modi's silence, urging India to confront Trump's disparaging statements more assertively.
