In a sweeping operation on Thursday, the Delhi Police made a significant bust by seizing 693 kilograms of illegal firecrackers from 42 different brands and arresting one suspect.

Acting on a tip-off from the Crime Branch, officers raided Matiala village and apprehended 52-year-old Dilbagh Singh. The stash of firecrackers was found stored unsafely on the premises of what posed as an ice cream manufacturing unit in a densely populated area, posing significant public danger.

The suspect admitted he planned to sell the firecrackers during the festive season for profit. These banned explosive items were reportedly sourced from roadside vendors in Kurali, Punjab, where such transactions remain unchecked. Authorities have registered a case under Sections 223(B)/288 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 9(B) of the Explosives Act, as the investigation progresses to track the broader supply network.
