The Commander of the Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Owuor Otieno, led a delegation to the Southern Naval Command (SNC) in Kochi from September 30 to October 2. The visit, according to the Ministry of Defence, was marked by strategic discussions with Vice Admiral V Srinivas on advancing training engagement and maritime cooperation between the Kenyan and Indian navies.
The delegation was introduced to the Indian Navy's professional training frameworks, where Major General Otieno praised India's Indian Ocean Ship - Sagar initiative. The IOS Sagar, manned by a multinational crew from nine Indian Ocean Region nations including Kenya, is seen as a pivotal step towards regional maritime collaboration. He heavily emphasized the need for bolstering regional ties, enhancing capabilities, and promoting interoperability through increased training exchanges.
During the visit, the Kenyan delegation toured various SNC training schools, observed cutting-edge simulators, and detailed discussions on operational sea training took place. A significant part of the tour included a visit to the Fast Attack Craft INS Kabra and the Naval hospital INHS Sanjivani. These interactions underscore the Endeavor of the Indian Navy to promote maritime excellence with Kenya since 1990 and reaffirm the deepening maritime partnership between the two nations.
