Hackers Target Executives in Mass Extortion Email Campaign

Alphabet's Google has revealed that hackers are launching a wide-reaching extortion email campaign aimed at executives across various companies. These emails claim to have obtained sensitive data from Oracle's business applications.

The group behind the emails is reportedly connected to the notorious ransomware outfit cl0p, although Google has yet to confirm the authenticity of the claims. The tech giant describes the volume of emails as high but remains cautious in its assessments.

Cynthia Kaiser from Halcyon's Ransomware Research Center reported ransom demands ranging from seven to fifty million dollars. While uncertainty surrounds the connection to cl0p, Kaiser notes potential links amidst many overlapping and copycat groups in the cybercrime ecosystem.
